2018 was a busy year for me. I got a new job. And a new car. And a boyfriend. A lot of people got married. I did some freelance work. I even started a book club. I meant to write 100 blog posts that I never finished writing, but this is one that I am fully committed to finishing. It’s a story about trying to overcome possibly the biggest sale I needed to make: the sale of my first car. (That was also a blog post I wanted to write: a proper sendoff to my first car. Despite the boat-likeness of it, and its tendency to give up on the whole driving thing, I have a soft spot for Taurus.) I wanted him to go to a good home.Read More
If you read this blog often or follow us on Instagram, you likely know that one of Cazey’s favorite brunch spots in Richmond was Star-Lite, so when we found out it was closing, we immediately made plans to go to their final brunch service to say our goodbyes.
You know what they say, though, when one door shuts, another door opens.
And that door happens to be to Brunch, the latest companion restaurant to Lunch | Supper.Read More
Ever since I turned 25, I get really bad hangovers. Not like the ones in college, where I’d just lay around for an hour and then recover. I’m talking full-day, heartburn, headache, light sensitivity and desperately needing a nap.
Cazey likes to tell me that he doesn’t get hangovers, which is especially obnoxious when I’m lying around helplessly hungover.
What’s most annoying is that my hangovers are unexpected. Once I drank four beers over the course of five hours and woke up with a splitting headache. A few weeks later, I drank at least four tequila drinks before switching to a beer or two and woke up ready for the day.Read More
While Cazey is a regular gym member, I am really good at working out for about a month and then giving up for roughly the same amount of time. Just as my DietBet was beginning, Cazey and I were given the opportunity to trial Gold’s Gym Richmond, which could not have been better timing to help me beat my physical fitness goals.Read More
Richmond has been put on the map lately for all of our breweries that have popped over the years. However, we’ve become a city (and state) with so much more to offer. That’s what Cider Week VA celebrates.
We had the pleasure of getting a little taste of what to expect from Cider Week Virginia 2018, which is coming up from November 9-18, 2018. Here’s what’s going down.Read More
Every board member is encouraged to do a fundraiser, and I wanted mine to be unique. Month ago, my friend raved about a flower arranging class she went to at Bridget Beari Home Store. She couldn’t stop talking about the beautiful store, informative class, beautiful flowers and awesome workshop leader.
Just like in the cartoons, a light bulb went off over my head. A flower arranging workshop would be a fun fundraiser (aka fun-draiser). I immediately reached out to Bridget Beari to see if they had any interest in working with me, to which they quickly said they’d be happy to help.Read More
A few months ago, I saw a picture on Instagram of Hobnob's pimento cheese BLT. It looked amazing, dripping in soft, melty pimento cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado on sourdough. Then I forgot about it in the chaos of life and the entire summer went by.
For reasons that I don't understand, the vision of this pimento cheese sandwich came back into my head this week and I began to obsess over a sandwich I've never had (again). The only reasonable thing a gal can do in a situation like this is GO GET THE SANDWICH.Read More
You might be wondering, what on earth could you possibly have left to say about weight loss, Sara? And that's a fair question. I want to talk about DietBet.
For starters: What is DietBet?
DietBet is an app which allows users to pay money into a weight loss challenge. The winners split the pot at the end. I hemmed and hawed about doing one. I knew from Biggest Loser that money motivated me to lose weight, but I only knew one person who has done it before. I also couldn't decide how much to bet or which type of game to do.Read More
We realized we can't sit here and declare the best biscuit in Richmond alone. While yes, we have a food blog and eat a lot, we can't make that call all alone. Instead, we turned to our ATOB Instagram followers to vote.
The Biscuit Bracket's Creation
Running alongside the World Cup bracket, we started our own bracket. We arranged a bracket with 16 local restaurants with biscuits on the menu and asked people to vote in every day's match up via our Instagram stories (which means voting is only open for a day). The winner would then move on to the next round.Read More
I've been annoyed for some time with private meme accounts. It's never really been at the forefront of my thought, just kind of the fly buzzing around the room, bringing with it some annoyance.
When someone is DM'ing me something they think is relevant and funny to me, I don't particularly want to go through the effort of following someone, waiting for them to accept me and then days later, smirk at whatever someone sent me. It's too long of a build-up, so then the meme is remarkably less funny.Read More
