Whoa, did you catch that? Rather than a brunch review, this is a dinner review of a place named Brunch. For Richmonders, most are like DUH, it’s the sibling to Lunch and Supper! This makes sense! For non-Richmonders, it’s a really confusing concept. Now, it’s time to wrap your heads around a restaurant named Brunch that serves a wicked brunch… and now dinner.Read More
One of my favorite dad jokes is to walk into an empty restaurant, turn to a friend and say, “Like how I rented it out for you?”
No one ever laughs, so I keep saying it, waiting for it to land. FINALLY my friend chuckled when I said it as we walked into Perch for brunch this Sunday. We considered making reservations, but since we showed up at 10:03 a.m. and the place opens at 10 a.m., we thought we’d be safe.
And that we were.Read More
A few weekends ago, one of my old roommates and I were thinking about where to go for brunch. ‘Tis the season of Richmond Brunch Weekend, so I sent her the list of fifty — yes that’s 50— options we had (I like to eat at participating restaurants and scope them out beforehand so I can make more informed recommendations).
From there, we narrowed it down to places I hadn’t been before, were open on Saturdays and were close by. We landed on Bar Solita, the newest RVA Hospitality restaurant featuring Mediterranean vibes, tapas and pizza. Bar Solita’s brunch menu reflects all of that, featuring a little bit of everything. When I was perusing the menu the night before our visit, I had my eye on the Old Bay chicken biscuit, breakfast empanadas and chicken and crepes. We decided to make a reservation in case it was crowded, which it wasn’t.Read More
My parents came down to Richmond and wanted either nachos or chicken for dinner, so I narrowed down our options to Billy Jack’s, Hot Chick, Continental Westhampton or Weezies. We ended up going to Continental Westhampton, but I couldn’t get over the menu and the gut feeling I had that Hot Chick would be a place for me.
The next day, my boyfriend texted me and told me we should brunch at Hot Chick — which is why we’re together clearly — and we made plans for the next weekend. I read and reread the menu at least once a day until it was finally Sunday.Read More
Not surprisingly, Sara and I are asked all the time what is our favorite brunch spot. This is not such a simple question and requires understanding of multiple factors like what is your favorite dish, how early are you willing to get up, and what vibe do you want in general?
Similarly, we get asked a lot about where our favorite happy hours are. I guess alcohol and brunch go hand-in-hand together? Today we’ve decided to answer that question that outlines our favorite places to grab a quick beer or rail and maybe a bite to eat.
Here’s our list of favorite happy hours spots!Read More
Crepes always make me feel fancy. Whether it’s their elegant French background, or how they’re so delicate, I just feel classy while eating crepes.
However, I felt the opposite of fancy when Cazey and I ended up at Les Crepes in Carytown last weekend. We went out for a walk and anticipated finding food along the way. When we ended up in Carytown, we considered Weezies, then remarked on the closing of 10 Italian Cafe and then we looked up the mighty steps and saw Les Crepes.Read More
If you read this blog often or follow us on Instagram, you likely know that one of Cazey’s favorite brunch spots in Richmond was Star-Lite, so when we found out it was closing, we immediately made plans to go to their final brunch service to say our goodbyes.
You know what they say, though, when one door shuts, another door opens.
And that door happens to be to Brunch, the latest companion restaurant to Lunch | Supper.Read More
You wouldn’t normally think of Matchbox Vintage Pizza Bistro in Short Pump as a brunch spot based on its name, but you’d be deceived. I have had several friends brunch here in the past, including Sara, and all had delivered rave anecdotes. I had been meaning to try it, too, especially since Matchbox has participated in Richmond Brunch Weekend for the last two years.
Thankfully, last weekend I got to check out their menu with Sara. Even better, we got to try out their newest menu – a bottomless brunch they’ve labeled the “Brunchbox.” Our special invitation came with a caveat: we had to be filmed for a promo Matchbox was shooting. Because of this, we didn’t get a lot of great photos we took. Instead, we had to take bites of the food for the camera before we could snap our own. For that reason, we’re using photos taken by local food photographer Deb Lindsey.Read More
A few months ago, I saw a picture on Instagram of Hobnob's pimento cheese BLT. It looked amazing, dripping in soft, melty pimento cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado on sourdough. Then I forgot about it in the chaos of life and the entire summer went by.
For reasons that I don't understand, the vision of this pimento cheese sandwich came back into my head this week and I began to obsess over a sandwich I've never had (again). The only reasonable thing a gal can do in a situation like this is GO GET THE SANDWICH.Read More
We realized we can't sit here and declare the best biscuit in Richmond alone. While yes, we have a food blog and eat a lot, we can't make that call all alone. Instead, we turned to our ATOB Instagram followers to vote.
The Biscuit Bracket's Creation
Running alongside the World Cup bracket, we started our own bracket. We arranged a bracket with 16 local restaurants with biscuits on the menu and asked people to vote in every day's match up via our Instagram stories (which means voting is only open for a day). The winner would then move on to the next round.Read More
