As Told Over Brunch

Support Local Restaurants During the COVID-19 Pandemic

When Cazey and I were brainstorming names for this blog years ago, we decided on ‘As Told Over Brunch,’ because it paid homage to something that was central in our lives: conducting our social lives at local restaurants. Whether it’s pouring our hearts out as we pour out mimosas, or fueling up for a productive day, brunch can be the backdrop for anything you need it for.

Brunch has been so central to the theme of the blog that we created Richmond Brunch Weekend as a way to come together with the community to give to cancer research while eating delicious food from local restaurants.

For five years, dozens of restaurants from around Richmond have partnered with us to raised thousands of dollars for VCU Massey Cancer Center.

Now, it’s time for us to come together for our restaurants.

Our restaurants, who accepted us as the disheveled, hungover messes of our early twenties. Our restaurants, who hosted us as we celebrated countless birthdays. Our restaurants, who have supported our charitable endeavors, donating food, money and time to charities like VCU Massey Cancer Center.

It’s so easy to do good right now! Literally all you have to do is stay home and get food delivered (or order ahead of time and pick up).

While ordering from ANY local restaurant is HIGHLY encouraged and very awesome of you, we want to give a special nod to those who were signed on to help fight cancer with us again this year through Richmond Brunch Weekend, which had to get postponed to help protect our community.

Nightingale

While you can’t get our beloved brunch bar right now, you can get plenty of other flavors delivered straight to your door. Place an order by 5PM on Tuesday to get them delivered to you by Thursday or Friday. To order, email Samantha@NightingaleIceCream.com.

Savory Grain

Savory Grain is doing curbside pickup and delivery through all the apps you might imagine. I’m thinking I need one of those friend chicken sandwiches with pimento cheese delivered to me with some Brussels sprouts this week! You can order online.

Courthouse Creek

I will forever love Courthouse Creek. Last year for Richmond Brunch Weekend they created cider and sake flights that were not just highly aesthetic, but outrageously delicious.

When you get thirsty or just sad that you’re living out your existence within the four walls of your house, order some bottles of local cider! They have plenty of flavors to choose from that are all perfectly balanced between flavorful but not too sweet. To order, email cider@courthousecreek.com.

Want more ways to help?

If you can’t afford to buy gift cards or food right now, consider doing something free for restuarants you love like following them on social media and writing them a review on Google or Yelp.

Thank you all for helping keep our local restaurants in business. It’s up to us to get them through this tough time, so keep eating!
