To chat about our favorite boots for the fall season, I teamed up with Sarah Collie from District Damsel, a Washington, D.C.-based blog that has showcases how to dress like Vanity Fair on a twenty-something's budget.

Over-the-knee boots have been on every fashionista's Instagram this fall, most likely the gorgeous Stuart Weitzman Highlander boot, which boast an $800.00 price tag. Considering that's close to my monthly rent, they were not even an option for my budget, but I found an amazing lookalike pair for a fraction of the price.

Florida was sitting pretty around 80 degrees and I was in need of a change. So I packed my bags and flew up to the New England for the weekend. I wasn’t quite sure of what to expect upon my descent to Providence, Rhode Island. I was taken aback by the small airport and the autumn colors – both of which I’m certainly not used to.

I reveled in the foliage and the slight drop in temperature. It felt good to wear a sweater and feel a breeze that wouldn’t completely ruin my hair. The air was fresh, the nature was vibrant, the laughter was filtering our lungs, and we were at peace wandering through Providence’s streets (all of which close dramatically early).

This is what my grand-mom told me right before she died. I was venting to her, fearful about finally getting out on the road to take my driver’s test, when she looked at me and said something I’ll never forget.

Ten years later, and I’m taking her advice and applying it to everything I know: love, romances, college, finally deciding on a career and, for once, actually sticking to it. My grandmother was wise – but this – this was the wisest reasoning of all.

I was a late Snapchat bloomer. At 26-years-old and a third-year PhD student, I downloaded the app. I still rely on either Cazey or my 16-year-old brother to help me navigate the features.

Now that I have Snapchat, it’s my favorite app. One of my favorite pastimes is observing and discussing the appearance and actions of strangers. Before you label me a judgmental, pretentious snot, please understand: I’m a compassionate, understanding human. I just enjoy people watching and using my imagination to deduce things about their lives. Snapchat allows me to capture some of my more interesting subjects and share them with friends. I hope you can see how harmless this is…harmless, assuming you’re decently skilled in subtle picture-taking. As it turns out, I’m not.

Eurotrip Part 2: Backpacking

The day after I graduated undergrad, I hopped on a plane bound for London Heathrow. Technically, I was there for 21 days to complete my Senior Thesis in Urban Planning and Sustainability. But really, I was there to live the London life.

I arrived with the usual stereotypes of London and all things British in my head: tea is to be drunk, the Queen is extremely important, and fish and chips is a hot commodity. I was excited for this adventure, but living in a different country comes with its setbacks.

1. When you first arrive, it's awkward. Where do you stand? Who do you talk to? Should you go find a seat or wander around? The only person who you know for sure will be there is the bride, and she's still in hiding at this point. Eventually you make a friend or find some people you kind of know.

2. Those people will feel sorry for you. Your high school chorus teacher will wait with you in line for punch. The dad of a kid who lived in your neighborhood will save you a seat for dinner. And you aren't even mad about being pitied, because you're too busy being grateful to be rid of the awkwardness.... Temporarily.

How I Made It To UConn

For the next twelve weeks, get used to seeing my name: I’m Will Woznicki, younger brother of Sara. Sara and Cazey have been kind enough to take my under their wings as an intern for As Told Over Brunch. Currently, I’m entering my senior year at the University of Connecticut. In the three years I’ve worked at two bars, played on the rugby team, and made many friends. I’m looking forward to sharing some of these stories with you.

Since childhood, I’ve been a UConn fan. I can blame my parents seeing as they both graduated from UConn themselves. As kids, my parents brought my sisters and I to Storrs, where UConn is located, whether it was to visit the Dairy Bar or watch the women’s basketball team have open practice.

If we were home, we watched the men or women’s basketball team. I grew up in a UConn household, complete with our “lucky nachos.” My dad started a tradition, where we’d have to each nachos during the game, which would clearly lead the Huskies to victory.

I had a college boyfriend. The kind you kiss behind the dorm room door while your roommate pretends not to be annoyed in the common room. The kind you Snapchat more than you talk to and fight with more than you love. The boy that you never knew you weren’t going to marry.

I’m not in college anymore. I don’t have that boyfriend anymore, either. I’m with someone I didn’t meet in bio lab or in the dining hall. He never want to a campus party with me. We talk way more than we text and if he doesn’t answer me for six or seven hours, I know it’s because he is busy. We don’t fight about iPhone drama the way my college boyfriend and I did. There are a lot of reasons for that, including my increased level of maturity, but the number one reason is this: I’m not in college anymore. I have a different life now, one that includes dress pants every day and business cards in my wallet. My new boyfriend has business cards too, not for the same company (thank goodness), but his life is like my life. We match in many ways.
